Leaving Bordeaux, after trying the famous and delicious « Cannelé », you will soon ride on the « Roger Lapébie » cycling path. You ride along a peaceful and pleasant wooded and well marked out path to Sauveterre de Guyenne. Several fortified towns near the path will allow you to appreciate local historic treasures.

You will enjoy spending the night in Marmande (Tomato Capital), Agen (undisputed Capital of prune). Then, you will spend a night in Moissac, where you can appreciate the charm and tranquility of the cloister (a must see!).
Soon, you reach Toulouse, our lovely “pink city”, with its incredible historical heritage, museums and mansions built with stones and bricks, which match each other incredibly well!

The meeting point is in Bordeaux, or in Latresne, if you prefer. You will be able to explore the city, much of which is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site (This label showcases the beauty and unity of style of Bordeaux’s architectural heritage, particularly related to the « Port de la lune »).
If you opt for a start in Latresne, you will enjoy hiking on one of the numerous hiking paths marked out by the small city, full of mansions and chateaux. You find the rented equipment and your roadbook at your accommodation.

Day 2: THE CANAL DE GARONNE FROM BORDEAUX TO COURPIAC/FRONTENAC

You start the Canal de Garonne, very easy to follow as signs are visible all along the path, from the « Pont de pierre » – stone bridge, in Bordeaux. If necessary, you have in your roadbook, a guidebook and maps you may put in the map-holder we provided you with. After a 9km-ride by the Garonne, you reach Latresne city and ride soon on the Lapébie cycling path. You pass by lovely small châteaux (for instance: the Chartreuse de Valrose) located just nearby the Garonne, that is just amazing! Once you are on the Lapébie cycling path, you ride in the valley nicely named « vallée de la Pimpine ». Créon is worth a small stop to have a drink; l’abbaye de la Sauve Majeure is worth a visit because of the beautiful sculptures on its capitals. Night in Courpiac/Frontenac, with dinner of your own choice.

Day 3: THE CANAL DE GARONNE FROM COURPIAC TO MARMANDE

B&B / 2* hotel
You arrive in the lovely fortified town « Sauveterre de Guyenne » easily. Then, the way becomes a bit harder to join La Réole. Before La Réole, you ride on hilly little-used minor roads. If you feel fit enough, you will pass by the terrific château de Lavison, if not, you may choose the optional itinerary by Bagas, a bit longer but flatter. Day 4: THE CANAL DE GARONNE FROM MARMANDE TO AGEN

B&B / 2* hotel
A quick stop in Le Mas d’Agenais is worth it: it is a charming small town with an old nicely restored church. Passing by Sérignac sur Garonne, you’ll have to get to the church to admire the original bell tower. Then, you reach Agen and feel its lively atmosphere. You will admire the Canal Bridge and its 23 arches, major emblematic building of the Canal de Garonne. Do not miss the art gallery, Saint-Caprais Cathedral and its exquisite half-timbered houses. The lock house Saint-Christophe or Valence d’Agen may be very pleasant stops. In this last one, you may have a drink in the former slaughterhouse and take some pictures, as this small town got no less than 3 classified outdoor historic washhouses ! Then, you get to Moissac and will probably remain much surprised by what you will find there. This town contains one of the most beautiful roman cloisters in Europe ! Once in Montech, you may get along the Canal de Montech heading for Montauban, but keep riding toward Toulouse, you have to go on by the Canal de Garonne toward Grisolles. Night in Grisolles, with dinner of your own choice.
Cycling : 37 km if you sleep in Grisolles (7d/6n & 8d/7n)

You’ll be able to stroll as you like, in the tight streets of the « pink city », finding everywhere half-timbered old houses and gorgeous mansions. The Capitole, Saint-Sernin Basilica, Jacobins church and its unique palm tree, Museum of Augustins are some of the buildings you cannot miss… Overnight in Toulouse, with dinner of your own choice.

They tried it, they loved it !

Exceptional preparation by emails over a couple of months.
The organisation of the trip which was totally tailored to our requirements was great. The accommodation was different at every location. The bikes were excellent and had all the equipment needed.
We will use them again and recommend them to everyone. Sandrine was our contact and always was available for any questions.

Dietmar

We did the four day trip from Toulouse to Carcassonne. Sandrine had everything organized – with hotels, maps, books, and clear instructions to guide us. She did a great job.
The equipment was very well maintained and was well suited for the terrain. We went in May so the weather was very nice to be cycling (not too hot but still sunny) and the trails were quiet.
My only recommendation if you’re stopping in Carcassonne – spend an extra night there. The B&B was AMAZING !

I would do this trip again any day.

Shannon

A great adventure, there’s nothing like it. Charming guesthouses, if not princely, with a friendly welcome.

Not to miss !
