This first part of our cycling route along the Canal du Midi proposes an itinerary from Toulouse to Carcassonne.

To start off, we suggest a visit of Toulouse (on bike or on foot), which is a lovely city. Then, you will enjoy crossing the Lauragais. If you want to start your trip gently, we recommend an overnight in a pretty B&B with a swimming pool.
For your total enjoyment, the magical landscape of the Lauragais is full of fortified hamlets, abbeys and attractive villages and we encourage you to take the time to explore that typical countryside.

Soon, you arrive in Castelnaudary, home of Cassoulet, where we advise you on the best restaurants to delight your taste buds. Then, the Canal leads you to Carcassonne, you cannot miss visiting its medieval city!

Our team will welcome you and give you plenty of good advice for your journey. After 50km of tarred path you arrive at the pleasant seuil de Naurouze, watershed between the Atlantic and Mediterranean. You spend the night in Lauragais or in Castelnaudary, the largest inland port between Toulouse and the Mediterranean. Dinner of your own choice. Cycling: 30 km or 65 km

B&B / 2* hotel Supplementary stage possible in order to divide this first stage into 2 days of around 30 km, for a gentle start or to spend a bit more time in Toulouse before leaving the big city. They tried it, they loved it !

Exceptional preparation by emails over a couple of months. The organisation of the trip which was totally tailored to our requirements was great. The accommodation was different at every location. The bikes were excellent and had all the equipment needed. We will use them again and recommend them to everyone. Sandrine was our contact and always was available for any questions.

We did the four day trip from Toulouse to Carcassonne. Sandrine had everything organized – with hotels, maps, books, and clear instructions to guide us. She did a great job. The equipment was very well maintained and was well suited for the terrain. We went in May so the weather was very nice to be cycling (not too hot but still sunny) and the trails were quiet. My only recommendation if you’re stopping in Carcassonne – spend an extra night there. The B&B was AMAZING ! I would do this trip again any day.

A great adventure, there’s nothing like it. Charming guesthouses, if not princely, with a friendly welcome. Not to miss !
